Abstract
176 words
The Africa Union’s Science, Technology and Innovation Strategy for Africa 2024 (STISA-2024) is the first of the ten-year incremental phasing strategies to respond to the demand for science, technology and innovation to impact across critical sectors such as agriculture, energy, environment, health, infrastructure development, mining, security and water among others. The strategy is anchored on six priority areas that contribute to the achievement of the Africa Union's vision. These are: eradication of hunger and achieving food security; prevention and control of diseases; communication (physical and intellectual mobility); protection of our space; live together- build the society; and wealth creation. In 2014, the Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM), an association of African universities with a mission to strengthen the capacities of universities to foster innovations responsive to the demands of smallholder farmers and value chains, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the African Union Commission to support the implementation of STISA Priority One “eradication of hunger and achieving food and nutrition security”. The following reports present RUFORUM’s progress in implementation of this mandate.
