Abstract

132 words

A 2X2X3 Factorial experiment was conducted at Kisozi Ranch, Gomba, during the 2nd rains of 1986 to determine the influence of two cultivators, two planting dates and three spacing’s on the incidence and severity of angular leaf spot (Phaeoisariopsis griseaola) and bean rust (Uromyces griseola) on beans (Phaseolus vulgaris). It was found out that the 2 varieties used did not differ in their degree of susceptibility to the diseases, but the disease incidence and severity were significantly affected by the planting date and especially the spacing used. The diseases were more sever on early planted beans and closely planted beans. The sparsely planted beans out yielded the closely planted beans suggesting that the low yield on closely planted beans was probably due to the infection by angular leaf spot and bean rust.
