Abstract
157 words
Developing strategic partnership has become integral to higher education in the 21st century,
and perhaps nowhere is this more apparent than in the recent proliferation of regional networks
and international partnerships among colleges and universities. In this paper, the Alliance for a
Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) presents the current dynamism on strengthening partnership
in research and higher education. The paper argues that partnership is key to socialization of
science, that is, a process of making Research and Higher Education relevant for social, economic
and environmental sustainability and embedding the science curricular in African realities. It
also illustrates the myriad ways in which strategic partnerships enhance, and even transform,
the institutions that participate in them, aiding in long-term goals of initiating and sustaining
innovative institutional linkages and preparing students for entry into the global workforce.
Furthermore, developing strategic partnerships serves as an indispensable resource for
institutions that wish expand linkages with higher education institutions in other countries.
